Spencer: A Story of Generosity

New York is such a diverse and driven city, and we are honored to work with so many volunteers who are the same. Through our partner, Hope for New York, we are able to engage volunteers every week in serving our neighbors. One of those volunteers is Spencer.

After having moved to New York for school and work, Spencer still felt something was missing. He knew he needed to do something to bless his neighbors saying, “I felt like God was calling me into serving and inviting me into His mission of creating communities that honor and glorify Him.”

After finding out about our weekly serving opportunities, Spencer jumped right in. “After one Saturday afternoon with the Fulton community I was hooked. I was amazed at how much love existed within the community. I loved how Fulton welcomed Dream Center NYC in for fellowship, prayer, and generosity and lived their lives so unguardedly with each other.”

And as he returned home from volunteering he knew his work didn’t just change the lives of others, but himself as well. “I had a conversation with Ada, a Fulton resident and now my friend, for nearly a full hour. I actually cried on the subway home because of how special it was that she shared her testimony and wisdom with me.” Spencer has become one of our most faithful volunteers and chooses to continue to be generous with his time and finances. He not only helps us carry out our mission, but gives to make it possible. “I feel fulfilled in my call to give and live generously through my work with Dream Center NYC.”

It is because of the generosity of people like Spencer that we are able to express God’s love to individuals and families experiencing poverty and loneliness in New York. Spencer, we are thankful for you and each of our volunteers and donors. None of this would be possible without you. Thank you for choosing to love people with us.
