8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. -Philippians 2:8-11
I intentionally wanted you to read this passage with hopes you would truly feel power in the name of Jesus. Are you aware this same spirit is working within you right now? If you’re reading this and don’t know Jesus PERSONALLY, please know this spirit knows YOU personally. As you read this he’s working on your relationships, finances and anything else you’re anxious about - while equipping you for every good work.
At the beginning of my relationship with Jesus, I thought “equipping” threw tons of pressure on me. I would think, “so if I’m equipped then I should walk this way, talk that way, and complete everything to perfection”. I desperately wanted confidence in something greater than myself; as I always seemed to fail. The Lord lead me to Phillipians where the apostle Paul writes of having confidence in the flesh.
4 though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more…..7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ. -Phillipians 3:4-8
What does Paul say here? I believe (through prayer) Paul laid a few things aside to “free up room” for the spirit to dwell within him. Jesus doesn’t need room, but wants all the room you can give him. It’s confidence in the equipping of the Holy Spirit within us that removes the overpowering thoughts of walking in perfection. Live your life with confidence in the name that makes every knee bow and every tongue confess. Have confidence in the name that says, “Step aside, I’ll fight this one for you”. Equipping is much deeper than your everyday steps, it’s your every day confidence and hunger in and for the name of Jesus.
When’s the last time you had that confidence? What room in your life is the lord asking for right now?
“Lord thank you for giving me access to the love and power in Jesus. I proclaim my body to be a living temple for the Holy Spirit to dwell within. Today I choose to have confidence in you. Amen”
